The foundation of behavior-based performance management is the simple principle that people perform best when they know:
• What they are supposed to do
• How they are supposed to do it
• How they are doing
• What is in it for them
More formally, behavior-based workforce management is based on applications of the “ABC Principle,” which defines Lees meer…

Is someone who has been helping managers improve their ability to manage and improve the performance of their people, I am still surprised that I hear comments from managers abut behaviour which is far from positive. I am left wondering why it still a problem, when many of the people I meet are very capable at other aspects of their role, particularly analysis of data and decision –making.
Here are some classic comments I hear when delivering management training courses on Performance Management:
“He does the job well enough, but his attitude is negative.”
“She is an average performer and I need some of them Lees meer…

A couple of weeks ago in Toyota conducts model test I took a look at the testing regime that NASA put in place when it tried to discover if anything was wrong with certain Toyota cars (a perceived problem that resulted in the recall of over 10 million cars).
The official report from NASA concluded that there was no technical problem, and so that should be the end of the story.
Although there were a couple of respondents who Lees meer…

Onlangs heeft de uitreiking plaatsgevonden van het royalty bedrag over 2010. Bij deze (kleine) feestelijke bijeenkomst waren zowel uitgever SDU, als KiKa aanwezig. Hieronder een kleine impressie.
The environment in which an individual spends his or her formative years has a profound effect on his or her personality, one that will last him or her a lifetime. This is a widely-known and accepted fact. An individual who has spent his childhood in a violent or aggressive environment will have an aggressive or violent streak to his personality. On other hand, individuals who belong to a quiet, peaceful and secure environment turn out to be confident, secure and balanced adults.
Positive reinforcement is the process whereby desirable behavior is encouraged by presenting a reward at the time of occurrence of such behavior. Positive reinforcement is a tried and tested method in what is known in psychology as ‘operant’ conditioning. It is widely studied and used in behavior analysis.

The Top Ten Mistakes to Avoid in Implementing Lean
1. Self imposed inflexibility. Job shops, make-to-order shops and engineer-to-order operations need to maintain a level of flexibility that OEM’s (Original Equipment Manufacturer) like Toyota seldom have to deal with. Being able to turn on a dime, make a product from scratch, prototype or fabricate an item never to be made again takes a special attitude, a unique set of skills and a nimble and flexible manufacturing system. One-Piece-Flow through hardwired machines is not a viable an option for Job Shops. Does this rule out ‘Lean’ for Job Shops? No! Many ‘Make-to-Order’ shops have applied tools from the ‘Toyota Production System’ Toolbox to dramatically improve their performance while still maintaining flexibility.
2. Ignore the fundamentals. Arranging machines together before they are capa Lees meer…

My dad lives in the Chicago area. His house has been buried in multiple snowstorms over the course of this winter. A few weeks back, he was driving somewhere during the time when the kids in his neighborhood were walking to school. Along one of the arterials, there are no houses that face the road, so the sidewalks hadn’t been shoveled. As a result, the kids were all walking in the street to get to class. My dad is retired, so has a little free time on his hands. He decided to take his snow blower the quarter mile or so up the sidewalk to keep the kids out of the street.

After the next snow, he started to do the same thing. Only this time, as he turned the corner, he saw another person with a snow blower clearing the sidewalk from the other end, coming toward him. And after the most recent snowfall, there was a third good citizen who was clearing snow in the middle of the sidewalk. In this case, the positive behavior was contagious. When people saw someone else doing a helpful act, they mimicked it. It is a little more complicated than that in your company, though.
